Evergreen, Colorado, known for its beautiful lake and charming town, sits at an elevation of 7,165 feet and offers MANY options to get outside and explore this spring and summer as the temperatures rise.
Due to its proximity to both Denver and the mountains, it’s easy to find a variety of activities in this charming town. There are also several festivals and events that take place in the foothills of Jefferson County.
Visit Evergreen Lake
Located right in downtown Evergreen, Evergreen Lake is popular year-round – think boating in the summer and ice skating in the winter. The Evergreen Lake House rents most types of watercraft from May to mid-September! All lake activities are subject to weather closure, so call in advance.
Golf at Evergreen Golf Course
The 18-hole course at the foot of the mountains is known as Denver’s mountain jewel. It features rolling hills and a variety of trees that provide a beautiful backdrop for the course. Keep your eyes open as wildlife is also known to frequent the course. After playing the course, head over to the Keys On The Green for food and drinks.
Hike on a Nearby Trail
Take a short hike along Mount Evans Trail to reach the summit of Mount Evans. This trail was officially designated as a recreation trail in 1979. It’s also one of the 58 Fourteeners of Colorado. Also nearby and worth a visit is the Alderfer/Three Sisters Park. The park features over 15 miles of trails that are ideal for mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding.
Climb a Rock Wall
Book an excursion with the Evergreen Wilderness Guides! Offering a variety of climbing experiences for newbies to the more experienced, you’ll have a great time trying out rock climbing. One of their offerings, the Three Sisters Traverse, is a varied experience of several of their public offerings. This half-day adventure features a moderate hike, rope climbing, and a small summit climb. It takes around four hours to complete.
Go to a Rodeo
Yes, there is a rodeo in Evergreen, and it’s a well-known tradition! The annual rodeo takes place in the beautiful town of Evergreen on Father’s Day weekend. Volunteers in the Evergreen Rodeo Association work year-round to keep the event running smoothly. The rodeo weekend features a parade through the streets of downtown Evergreen, an evening rodeo performance, and a performance on the afternoon of Sunday. Celebrate the town’s western heritage – rain or shine!
